Class Reflection Questions

The fall 2010 Rhetoric of Memory class has chosen to reflect on the following 4 questions throughout the semester:

  1. In regards to collective memory, how does the way in which traumatic events are framed benefit specific groups while simultaneously harming others?  Can traumatic memory be used in the creation of power structures between different racial or socio-economic groups?
  2. Can memory and knowledge be exclusive of each other?
  3. Can we share in the pain of someone else’s memories even if they have nothing to do with us?
  4. How does memory influence reality?
